    Ceremonial Bali & Rhythms of Paradise Tour

    Join Tribal Music Guide Stephanie Buffington and Idris Hester of the AGAPE DRUM MINISTRY for an inspirational experience of a lifetime to one of the most enchanting and deeply spiritual cultures remaining on earth. Participate in an 12 day journey that includes inspired workshops in Balinese music, ceremony and sacred dance led by gamelan masters and village high priests. Daily guided meditations and "Drummunication" sessions with Idris will prepare us to enter the timeless realms of Balinese magic and ceremony. We will attend several temple ceremonies including a very special, all night, full moon ceremony on Buddha's birthday in the Monkey Forrest Temple and a sacred odalan at the big temple at Sukawati. Bali will be ablaze with colorful ceremonial processions, sacred music and dance during this most auspicious time.
    You will also have the unique opportunity to visit and receive treatment with renown shaman healer Tjokorda Rai and take a dip in the rejuvenating "waters of immortality" at Turta Empul sacred bathing pools.

    DAILY ITINERARY for "Ceremonial Bali '09

    Day 1
    Friday May 1st 2009 (early Friday AM flight)
    PLEASE ARRIVE AT LAX BRADLEY BUILDING Cathay Pacific Airways Counter no later than 10:15 PM !
    (Thursday night April 30th - look for the yellow TMT flag)
    Depart LAX 1:45 AM via Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific


    Day 2
    Saturday May 2nd
    Arrive Bali 2:50 PM transfer to Beach Front resorts for check-in and overnight stay. Enjoy the pools for a moonlight swim or have a meal at a colorful boardwalk restaurant. A good night's sleep is recommended.


    Day 3
    Sunday May 3rd
    Leisurely morning breakfast. Go for a walk on Bali's famous Legion Beach, change money, get a massage, shop for sarongs. Get grounded and refreshed. We will have an orientation lunch with the whole group before 1:30 coach transfer to Jungle Villas in Ubud area.
    4:30 Walk to the exotic Monkey Forrest and learn your way around the village.
    Tonight we'll attend a new moon temple ceremony and participate in sacred rituals and prayers. Temple gear required


    Day 4
    Monday May 4th
    Early morning mediation and blessing ritual from a local High Priest will explain the mystical elements of ceremony and use of ritual objects.
    Afterward we will have a "Drummunication" experience session with Agape Drum Ministry's Idris Hestor. Learn the techniques of Rhythmic Prayer in this transformational and enlightening workshop.
    This afternoon you can visit an authentic Balinese shaman Tjokorda Gede Rai for a profound experience in the magical healing arts. His work has had astounding results with visitors from around the world.
    Or feel free to go for a massage (local $8 per 1 hour) and/or explore the huge and colorful the Ubud Bazaar for handicraft treasures.
    7:15 Evening Celebration Feast and special men's "Kecak" trance dance performance by torch light at Leke Lake Restaurant a short walk from the Villas.


    DAY 5
    Tuesday May 5th
    10:00 AM This morning we will have a workshop and small performance with Sri, the master drummer of the Women's Gamelan Orchestra of Pejang. Her father, a renowned music teacher in the area, will show with us some of the unique and little known instruments only found in Bali and how to play them followed by a catered lunch. 2:00 We will tour Bali's biggest drum factory and see the making of drums from start to finish as well as be able to purchase instruments at a considerable discount from Ed Balma's showroom. www.drumfactory.com
    Tonight there will be an after dinner Sacred Rhythm Lodge drum circle at the Villa and the opportunity to see more sacred dance theater at Ubud's Royal Palace.


    Day 6
    Wednesday May 6th Sukawati Pura Puseh Odalan Temple Ceremony
    AM walk through the back villages and jungle to the picturesque Agung River for a rejuvenating dip at the Holy Spring and an unforgettable view of the famous Rice Terraces of Sayan. We will walk back to lunch at Murnie's warong, set on the side of the jungle with splendid views and excellent food and surround by some of Ubud's best art galleries.
    Tonight is the Odalan Temple Ceremony at Sukawati there will be a large and colorful procession from the village to the temple where the High Priest will bless you with special holy water as the shaman chant verses of the Mahabrata. Temple gear required.


    Day 7
    Thursday May 7th (Carry on overnight bag ONLY!)
    9:00 AM departure for East Bali and Tenganan / Amed with overnight at Hidden Paradise.
    Today we will visit Tenganan Bali's oldest village to meet with a master musician in his home where we will have the opportunity to hear and play ancient instruments. In late afternoon we will continue our journey to Amed through the spectacular rice fields of Tirtengana with the sacred Agung Volcano as a looming backdrop. The evening is complete with ocean front feast, after dinner jam with the locals and moonlight massage.


    Day 8
    Friday May 8 Hidden Paradise
    Rise early for the spectacular dawn sunrise over Lombock as seen from the beach.
    9:00 am Outrigger's depart for snorkeling adventure to a small wreck teeming with colorful fish and coral.
    12:00 Lunch and check out. We will return via Beskih the spectacular and holist mother temple of all Bali for sunset prayers.
    4:00 pm The coach returns to the Villas in the Ubud area.


    Day 9
    Saturday May 9th Buddha's Birthday and Full Moon Ceremony in Bedulu
    Balinese Dance workshop with Sang Ayu ~ Meet Shaman Healer Cokorda Rai
    Meet one of Bali's most renowned dance teachers still teaching at 90 years of age. We will learn the secrets of her longevity as she shows us the fundamentals of the graceful hand movements and postures. Her number one Western student for the last 25 years, Barbara Mintz, will be assisting her and is a master teacher of dance in Ubud today. Visit her web site at www.rightangle.com/bhava.
    This afternoon we will visit the village Bedulu for the all night Full Moon "Purnama" Ceremony and the Monkey Forrest Temple also. It is also "Hari Raya Waisak" (Buddha's birthday) and Bali will be teeming with dramatic processions, ceremonial dance and gamelan. We are quite lucky to be here at this auspicious time with entre to these magical events. Ceremonial gear required.


    Day 10
    Sunday May 10th
    Participate in and co-facilitate with The Agape Drum Ministry, the 2nd Annual Bali Sacred Drum Festival to be held in the Ubud Money Forrest Soccer field, in partnership with local drum manufacturer (www.drumfactory.com) and drummers from around the world.
    This event will be our chance to forge trans-cultural unity and create an unforgettable exchange of high spirits. The night will resume with a complete Balinese feast and farewell party back at the villa.


    Day 11
    Monday May 11th
    AM excursion to Gunung Kawi ~ 11th century temple carved into the mountain side with ancient meditation caves. Shop for last minute gifts at the Ubud Bazar and art market or relax with a spa treatment.

    Day 12
    Tuesday May 12th ~ Depart Bali 4:00 PM~Arrive LAX 9:55 pm

    • A valid passport is needed to go to Bali, and due to the new security measures, your passport must be valid for 6 months AFTER YOU RETURN HOME or at least until 12/12/2009
    • A travelers packet will be sent to you when you have registered that will have all the detailed information you'll need.
    • Trip and medical insurance for your tour is your responsibility and advised.
    • Participation in the group program is not required but highly recommended.
