Rhythm Journey to Ceremonial Bali Tour

Join world percussionist Paulo Mattioli and Tribal Music Guide Stephanie Buffington for an inspirational experience of a lifetime to one of the most enchanting and deeply spiritual cultures remaining on earth. Participate in an 12 day journey that includes inspiring workshops in Balinese music, ceremony and sacred dance led by gamelan masters and village high priests that will prepare us to enter the timeless realms of Balinese magic and ritual. We will be attending an all night full moon temple ceremony in the Monkey Forest and everywhere will be ablaze with colorful ceremonial processions, sacred music and dance as our trip coincides with Bali's most important and spectacular high holiday: Kuningan.
Paulo will lead us on a Rhythm Journey, exploring the depths of our rhythmic nature. Enjoy creative rhythmical expression, sharpen your drumming skills in Paulo's drum workshops in preparation for the "3rd Annual Ubud Sacred Rhythm Festival!” All the drums will be provided along with a unique opportunity to visit with Bali's drum craftsman.

DAILY ITINERARY for "Rhythm Journey to Ceremonial Bali 2010"
Day 1
Wednesday May19 2010 (early Friday AM flight)
PLEASE ARRIVE AT LAX BRADLEY BUILDING China Airlines Counter no later than 10:00PM !

Depart LAX 12:55 AM via Hong Kong on China Airlines
Day 2 Arrival
Thursday May 20th ~ Arrival Bali 2:20 PM
Transfer to Beach Front resort for check-in and overnight stay. Enjoy the pools for a moonlight swim or have a meal at a colorful boardwalk restaurant. A good night's sleep is recommended.
Day 3
Friday May 21st ~ Beach Resort
Leisurely morning breakfast. Go for a walk on Bali's famous Legion Beach, change money, get a massage, shop for sarongs. Get grounded and refreshed. We will have an orientation lunch with the whole group before 1:30 PM coach transfer to jungle villas in Ubud area.
4:30 PM Walk to the exotic Monkey Forrest and learn your way around the village.
Tonight we'll visit the special "Night Bazaar" of Ubud for great local food, then back at the villa we will have our first Rhythm Journey drum circle with Paulo.
All drums will be provided.
Day 4
Saturday May 22th ~ Bali High Holy Day Kuningan
Early morning meditation and blessing ritual from a local High Priest at the villa. He will explain the mystical elements of ceremony and use of ritual objects for todays temple ceremony in Bedulu. We will witness a large, colorful, mile-long procession and join in the ceremony to receive the holy-water blessing and see the sacred trance dancers on into the night.
Temple gear required.
DAY 5
Sunday May 23rd ~ Sayan hike to Holy Spring and afternoon Visit to shaman healer Tjorkorda Rai
Morning walk through the back artist village and jungle to the picturesque Agung River for a rejuvenating dip at the Holy Spring and an unforgettable view of the famous rice terraces of Sayan. We will walk back to lunch at Murnie's Warong, set on the side of the jungle with splendid views and excellent food and surrounded by some of Ubud's best art galleries.
2:00 pm This afternoon those that want can visit the renowned shaman healer Tjorkorda Rai for a personal treatment or just to witness his astounding work.
Tonight there will be an after-dinner Rhythm Journey drum circle at the villa and the opportunity to see more sacred dance theater at Ubud's Royal Palace.
Day 6
Monday May 24th ~ Gamelan Master Jam, Drum Factory Tour and Evening Men's Ketak Dance and Feast
10:00 AM This morning we will have a workshop and small performance with Sri, the master drummer of the Women's Gamelan Orchestra of Pejang. Her father, a renowned music teacher in the area, will show us some of the unique and little known instruments only found in Bali, and how to play them, followed by a drum jam and catered lunch.
2:00 We will visit with Balinese drum craftsman and see the making of drums from start to finish.
7:00 Tonight we will dine under the stars and see an authentic men’s ketack dance by torch light.
Day 7
Tuesday May 25th ~ (Carry on overnight bag ONLY!) Tenganan Excursion
9:00 AM departure for East Bali and Tenganan / Amed with overnight at Hidden Paradise.
Today we will visit Tenganan, Bali's oldest village to meet with a master musician in his home where we will have the opportunity to hear and play ancient instruments.
In late afternoon, we will continue our journey to Amed through the spectacular rice fields of Tirtengana with the sacred Agung Volcano as a looming backdrop. The evening is complete with ocean front feast, after dinner jam with the locals, and moonlight massage.
Day 8th
Wednesday May 26th ~ Hidden Paradise Snorkel and Bat Temple
Rise early for the spectacular dawn sunrise over Lombock as seen from the beach.
9:00 AM Outrigger's depart for snorkeling adventure to a small wreck teeming with colorful fish and coral.
12:00 Lunch and check out. We will return via Candi Dasa Bat Temple, a magnificent sea side temple home to thousands of bats. Temple gear required.
4:00 PM The coach returns to the villas in the Ubud area.
Day 9
Thursday May 27th ~ Balinese Dance Workshop with Sang Ayu and Evening Full-Moon Ceremony in the Monkey Forrest Temple
This morning we will meet one of Bali's most renowned dance teachers, still teaching at 90 years of age. We will learn the secrets of her longevity as she shows us the fundamentals of the graceful hand movements and postures. Her number one Western student for the last 25 years, Barbara Mintz, will be assisting her and is a master teacher of dance in Ubud today.
This afternoon we will take a magical hike to a secluded restaurant deep within the rice fields of Ubud for a sumptuous organic lunch. After dinner we will enter the Monkey Forrest for the full-moon ceremony and trance dance at the temple. Sarongs and temple gear required.
Day 10 ~ Healing Sound Caves of Gunung Kowi and Springs of Immortality
Friday May 28th
Earlry morning excursion to Gunung Kawi ~ 11th century temple carved into the mountain side with ancient meditation caves and healing sound chambers where one can experience the heart beat of the earth. Later, we will stop at Tirta Empul, sacred bathing pools where you may dip in what the Balinese consider the "Springs of Immortality", where we will have our own Rhythm Journey purification ritual. This evening we will jam with a local world music band at an Ubud hot spot.
Day 11
Saturday May 29th ~ 3rd Annual Ubud Drum Circle
Participate in and co-facilitate with Paulo, the 3rd Annual Bali Sacred Drum Festival to be held in the Ubud Soccer Field, in partnership with a local drum manufacturer www.drumfactory.com and drummers from around the world. This event will be our chance to forge trans-cultural unity and create an unforgettable exchange of high spirits as well as raise money for the crippled children's charity. The night will resume with a complete Balinese feast and farewell party back at the villa.
Day 12
Sunday May 30th ~ Depart Bali 3:30 PM~Arrive LAX 8:05 pm
Morning free for last minute shopping and packing or massage.
Coach for airport departs villas at 11:30 AM
*Due to the nature of the tour, please be aware that this itinerary is subject to change without notice at the discretion of the tour leader as unforeseen events and circumstances dictate. Every effort will be taken by TMT to keep the all the activities the itinerary as planned.

Price Includes
- R/T airfare from LAX on China Airlines, all transfers and group transportation.
- 11 nights deluxe jungle villa, all breakfasts, three dinners. Based on double occupancy. Deluxe single upgrade with air conditioning, private bath, etc., available.
- All workshops and sacred site entrance fees.
- All excursions and group functions including outrigger snorkeling trip.
- Drums and indigenous instruments to play during your stay.
- Three dinners, including Balinese feast and sacred "Kecak" men's trance dance.
- Group is limited to 20 participants maximum. A $600 deposit is required to hold your place by February 15, 2010.
- Payable by credit card or PayPal. A check for the balance is due within 6weeks of departure (3/29/2010)
Extras

- Indonesian visa approx. $25 upon arrival and $15 departure tax.
- Spa treatments and massage approx. $7 to $20 per session depending on the treatment.
- Tips and gratuities for drivers and guides.
- Dinners, lunches and drinks not mentioned in the itinerary. There are delicious international restaurants in Ubud for all tastes and budgets as well as snacks, available at the villas. Budget $20 to $35 per day for the above.
- A valid passport is needed to go to Bali. Your passport must be valid for 6 months AFTER YOUR RETURN HOME or at least until 12/12/2010.
- A travelers packet will be sent to you when you have registered which contains all the detailed information you'll need.
- Trip and medical insurance for your tour is your responsibility and advised.
- Possible airline fuel taxes before ticketing may be incurred.
- Participation in the group program is not required but highly recommended.
